2 March 2025
On Sunday, March 2, the Israeli occupation completely halted the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, continuing its weaponization of starvation as a tool of genocide and ethnic cleansing. This is not an isolated act but rather part of the Israeli occupation’s systematic and deliberate effort to manufacture famine in Gaza, conducted in open coordination with and emboldened by the United States. The so-called ceasefire was never a ceasefire, and the genocide has not ended. Instead, the Israeli occupation continues to violate international law, including its obligations under the ceasefire agreement, while intensifying its assault on Palestinian existence. Further, the Israeli government is explicitly celebrating this blockade, calling to unleash the “gates of hell” on Gaza.
The deliberate cutting off of food, water, and essential supplies is a war crime. For the duration of the genocidal war, the Israeli occupation has systematically destroyed food supplies, blocked aid convoys, and obliterated Palestinian agriculture as part of a deliberate policy of annihilation. This escalation comes at the start of Ramadan, leaving Palestinians unable to find food or water to break their fasts at sundown. As Palestinian journalist Hind Khoury writes from Gaza: “The stoppage of humanitarian supplies means Palestinians will definitely not eat. It’s as simple as that.”
UAWC calls for immediate and unconditional access to food and humanitarian aid for Gaza. We demand an end to the Israeli siege of the Gaza Strip, accountability for its crimes, and immediate pressure to permanently halt this genocide.
