UAWC Signs an Agricultural Road Construction agreement in Bethlehem
Hebron – The Union of Agricultural Work Committee signed an agreement to construct and rehabilitate 4km of agricultural roads in area C with Bethlehem Governorate, in the presence of Bethlehem Governor Jibreen Al-Bakri, UAWC’s acting general director Fuad Abu Seid, the director of Tkou’s municipality Hatem Ta’amreh and representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Al-Bakri emphasized that land and water projects are strategic projects to resist the Israeli occupation and settlements’ expansion especially in area C.
Abu Seif stated that the agreement is within “Land, Water, and Human Resource Development in Vulnerable Areas of the West Bank- JUTHOOR” project funded by the European Union, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, and in partnership with Land Research Center (LRC), Palestinian Hydrology Group for Water and Environmental Resources Development (PHG), Bisan Development and Research Center (Bisan), and Gruppo di Volontariato Civile (GVC).
The project will develop more than 1,200 dunums of agricultural land in threatened areas, a 1000 dunums grazing reserve, in addition to rehabilitating 70km of agricultural roads, and rehabilitating 16 thousand cubic meters of water resources in rural areas.
In the same context the director of Tkou’s municipality Hatem Ta’amreh elaborated that the agricultural development projects should be a priority for its direct link with resisting the occupation.
