UAWC Participates in Grape Festival

Hebron_ the Union of Agricultural Work Committees participated in Grape Festival in the governorate of Hebron within the project of  ” Transitioning from Relief to Sustainable Livelihoods (R2S): Strengthening Food Security in West Bank and Gaza”, which is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency in partnership with CARE International Foundation activities.

UAWC’s participation in this festival came in the light of its objectives “improving the lives of small farmers and strengthening their steadfastness on their land”; through improving a sustainable lives for 35 women’s cooperative. Eight of them participated in the festival:  Bani Na’im cooperative for food processing, Palestinian food heritage house cooperative, Beit Ummar cooperative, beta Cooperative, Nabulsi soap, four stars Youth Group, Al-Mahaour cooperative, Surif Cooperative, Beit Aula Cooperative. 

In addition, the UAWC’s volunteers distributed brochures about UAWC’s projects in the West bank and Gaza strip, in particular Local seed bank project, the project that gain a great attention from youth and outsider victors

The Project Manager, Eng. Doaa Zayed, stressed on the importance of these marketing festivals and activities to introduce cooperatives’ products, exchange experiences, make relations with marketing agencies. She confirmed on the UAWC’s main goal to empower small farmers, both men and women, as well as their families, and strengthen farmers’ resilience on their lands in an agricultural and public developmental framework at the public level. 

The project aims to improve sustainable livings for those most affected by the conflict and food insecurity in 26 localities in the villages of Beit Ula, Seir, Khilet Saleh, Tawani, Yatta, Dora, Samu, Bani Naim, Al-Shiokh, Halhul, Beit Ummar, Surif in the Governorate of Hebron and Ooodla, Awarta, Beta, Yatma, Jammai’n in the Governrate of Nablus and Battir, Al-Khader, Wade fuckin, Nahaleen, Shawawrah in the Governorate of  Bethlehem and Gaza City, the central region, Beit Hanoun, Khan Younis, Beit Lahia in the Gaza Strip

  These achievements come in the light of UAWC’s national and development role in empowerment of farmers and their families and strengthen their steadfastness, thus creating agricultural prosperity in the face of the Israeli violations and their control over Palestinian lands and resources.
