UAWC organizes “know your rights to protect your land” workshop in Jericho
Ramallah- The Union of Agriculture Work Committees in coordination with the Governorate of Jericho and the Jordan Valley organized a workshop titled “know your rights to protect your land.” The workshop targeted the directors of the Jordan valley village councils.
UAWC’s legal consultant Ashraf Al-Nashashibi emphasized on the importance of raising farmers’ awareness especially regarding the correct procedures to undergo after receiving a confiscation or demolition or stop-work order.
The deputy governor of Jericho Governorate Abu Hasan Al-Rjoub pointed at the NGO initiatives that aim to protect the Palestinian land especially in the Jordan Valley, given that the Israeli occupation controls most of the natural resources especially that 95% of the Jordan Valley is area C.
In his speech, the officer of the violations’ file in the Jericho and Jordan Valley MoA’s agricultural department Maher Abu Atyeh showed that the department recorded 160 physical assaults’ violations against farmers and 96 demolition violation.
The workshop was done in parallel with the increase of confiscation and demolition and stop-work Israeli military orders against the Jordan Valley. 60% of the Jordan Valley has Israeli military orders (confiscation or demolition or stop-work orders).
It is important to note that UAWC succeeded in protecting 92 cases in the Jordan Valley with the direct coordination with the Palestinian MoA and Jericho and Toubas’s Governorates.
UAWC continues to effectively empower Palestinian farmers and their families and to strengthen their attachment to their land within a public and voluntary agricultural development framework.
The workshop was with “Defending our rights” project funded by the Norwegian People’s Fund.
