UAWC launches an exhibit for Beteen’s women cooperative

The Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC) launched an exhibit of food products processed by the Beteen’s women cooperative to encourage the women and protect the local products.

The member of UAWC’s Board of Directors Dr. Nidaa Abu Awad pointed that the women cooperatives play a great role in the protection of the local products, and emphasized on the importance of redirecting the strategies and projects of the organizations working in the agricultural sector towards increasing the participation of women in this sector.

The director of UAWC’s Grassroots, Policies & Advocacy Department Samah Darwish pointed at the importance of protecting the local products and the boycott the Israeli products. Darwish also stressed that the women cooperatives form the basis for defending the local products from the Israeli settlement products.

It is important to note that Beteen’s cooperative was launched in 2007. It is specialized in food processing. In the previous years, the cooperative exported some of its products. UAWC has worked on strengthening the cooperative through providing it with the production tools in addition to workshops and training courses for the members of the cooperative to protect the local Palestinian market from the imported competitive products in the local market.
