UAWC held a workshop about the Israeli violations and the rights of farmers
Ramallah- The Union of Agricultural Work Committees held a workshop for its agricultural committees about the Israeli violations and the rights of farmers in the Red Crescent Hall in Al-Bireh, in partnership with the Jerusalem Legal Aid and Human Rights Centre (JLAC). The members of agricultural committees from different Palestinian districts attended the workshop.
The director of UAWC Khaled Al-Hidmi opened the workshop emphasizing on its importance to the farmers since most of them are threatened with Israeli confiscation notices in all the West Bank districts. Noting that UAWC had followed several Israeli notices and succeeded in delaying a number of them, and it is still following up with more notices to support the Palestinian farmers.
During the workshop, a paper about the Israeli violations against the Palestinian farmers in area “C” and in areas near the wall was presented.
Regarding JLAC, the lawyer Bassam Karajah presented a paper about the legal procedures followed according to the law of the occupation to cancel or delay the orders related to demolition and confiscation in terms of duration, fees, litigation procedures and appeal provisions.
The event is within a series of workshops held by UAWC to raise the awareness of Palestinian farmers regarding their rights and the importance of documentation. It is important to point that the workshop is within “Defending Our Rights” project which is funded by the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA).
