UAWC completes agricultural roads and delivers water pumps in Nablus
In the beginning of 2019, UAWC completed the construction and rehabilitation of 7 km of agricultural roads in the town of Asira ash-Shamaliya in the Nablus Governorate. This activity is part of the inclusive access to and sustainable management of land and water resources project. These newly constructed roads provide access to hundreds of dunums of agricultural land located in regions threatened with confiscation by Israeli forces. Within the scope of the project, UAWC and the Economic and Social Development Center of Palestine (ESDC) supplied solar water pumps to farmers residing in the area of Yassid in Nablus and other areas in the southern West Bank. This is the first innovative system of its kind to be installed in the West Bank, as the water pumps can be easily moved and transported. The pumps can also be used to pump water from the collective wells. As such, the water can be used for supplementary irrigation of trees and crops in the summer season, especially in remote and secluded mountain areas that are not connected to the electricity grid, thereby making it easier for farmers to irrigate large areas of crops with minimal effort and cost. Additionally, these activities are consistent with the objectives and strategies of UAWC set to promote the steadfastness of farmers and protect their agricultural land from Judaization and confiscation.
