UAWC and a delegation of French partners organize meetings in Hebron to discuss water resources management
A delegation from UAWC, together with a French delegation from Experts-Solidaires and the French Water Partnership, held a meeting with the Governor of Hebron, Mr. Jibrin Al-Bakri, to discuss the political and economic situation of the province. The water situation within the agricultural sector was a crucial point on the agenda as well. The meeting was conducted under the scope of targeting the towns of Dura and Beit Ola, as part of the project of sustainable development and water resources, funded by the French Development Agency and implemented by UAWC. The project aims to improve water harvesting techniques, water supply for irrigation, capacity building of municipalities and training of farmers. The project is set for a duration of 30 months and includes a second stage for the construction of metal and concrete water cisterns in the two targeted municipalities. The delegation had previously met with the Municipality of Dura represented by its mayor, Mr. Ahmed Salhoub and several members of the Municipal Council. The meeting included a presentation explaining the water situation in Dura, where many citizens do not have access to safe drinking water, wastewater management issues have increased, and farmers face difficulties in accessing water for irrigation, especially during the summer season. In addition, the Director General of UAWC, Mr. Fuad Abu Saif, stressed the importance of these meetings as they enhance cooperation with the municipalities of the province, and are in the interest of citizens struggling due to Israeli control of the main water resources. Mr. Abu Saif also highlighted the need to hold meetings in order to discuss opportunities for future cooperation to extend service and support for Palestinian farmers.
