The Union Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC) opened on Sunday, July 23, 2017, a youth cultural centre in the town of Birzeit within "Promotion of Economic Alternatives" project that is funded by Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. The opening ceremony was attended by UAWC's General Director, Eng. Fuad Abu Saif, the director of Rosa Luxemburg Office in Ramallah, Ute Beuck, and program director at Rosa, Salam Hamdan.
In this context, Abu Saif stated that this café is new intervention that is different than UAWC's normal and ordinal projects, but came in line with its general objective "promotion of socialist economic alternatives" to support unemployed youth by providing them a sustainable source of income, and to support students by providing them a cultural forum that will embrace a lot of cultural activities.
From her part, Ms. Buick stressed that this project comes within one of its most important goals as a left-wing socialist institution to promote socialist economic alternatives in the face of the capitalist system.
The youth cooperative explained that this cafe came to satisfy the need of Birzeit's students, which will meet their needs and provide them with services at reduced prices, it will provide them with a place of collective study, and will provide them with the variety of cultural activities.
