The Union of Agricultural Work Committees in Palestine launches a local and international campaign under the name “Plant a Seed in Area C”
The Union of Agricultural Work Committees in Palestine launches a local and international campaign under the name “Plant a Seed in Area C” on the 22ND of October 2018. Part of this campaign will be directed towards growing thousands of seeds in lands threatened by annexation in the West Bank.
This ongoing work to annex Area C by the Israeli occupation comes as part of its broader attempt to prevent the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, particularly after the Jewish nation-state law and the efforts to implement the American-Israeli ‘deal of the century’. This is part of the broader Israeli work towards eliminating the Palestinian national cause and the Palestinian rights as stipulated in international law and resolutions.
UAWC’s campaign affirms the right of developmental work of Palestinians in Area C since it is an occupied territory and part of the desired Palestinian state. “Plant a Seed in Area C” campaign also comes as a response to the ongoing incitement targeted against UAWC and other Palestinian organizations carried by several Israeli organizations as an attempt to prevent Palestinian organizations, governmental and private institutions from working in Area C.
At the Union of Agricultural Work Committees, we affirm that we are a religiously and politically independent organization. We do not hide our national progressive identity, and therefore our work with poor people especially farmers. We also fully believe in the importance of developmental work, and the importance of continuing our strategic developmental role in Area “C” concerning land reclamation and cultivation as to enhance farmers’ resistance in compliance with UAWC’s slogan “Protecting our Lands; Supporting our Farmers.”
We thus call on our friends worldwide to support this campaign in ways they see fit, by writing letters of support or by contributing and volunteering in agricultural work as to reject Israeli claims, and to protect UAWC and the broader Palestinian civil society in carrying out their development and national roles.
